Bad Hat

Eight Foot Fluorescent Tubes

Lineup

  • Trey Anastasio– guitar
  • Jon Fishman – drums
  • Jamie Masefield – mandolin
  • Stacy Starkweather – bass

A variation of Jamie Masefield’s Jazz Mandolin Project, Bad Hat played mostly jazz standards including “So What,” “Billie’s Bounce,” “Caravan,” “Jump Monk,” and “Take the A Train” as well as an early JMP composition. The project was short-lived, with no album released and only a handful of gigs throughout the northeast during 1994, one of Phish’s busiest touring years. The band reunited on 1/24/96 for a tribute to Trey’s grandmother, billed as “Carmel’s Coffeehouse,” in the Christ Church on Redstone campus at the University of Vermont.
