The Trio

The Trio

Lineup

  • Trey Anastasio - guitar
  • Russ Lawton - drums
  • Tony Markellis - bass

Recalling the rhythmic chemistry of the 8ft Fluorescent Tubes, Trey brought Tony and Russ back to The Barn for a jam session. The trio soon made their debut at Higher Ground with a benefit concert for Very Special Arts Vermont, a local non-profit. Trey began the night with a set of solo acoustic renditions of Phish classics ranging from 'Guyute' to 'Runaway Jim'. Then the trio hit the stage electric and played a set that included new arrangements of the above mentioned Eight Foot Fluorescent Tubes' songs as well as a new original, 'Gotta Jibboo,' and a number of new covers.

In May of 1999, Trey hit the road with Tony and Russ for his first solo. The shows were modeled after the VSAV benefit, with Trey opening the show with a solo acoustic set on both guitar and piano, followed by an electric set with Tony and Russ. The tour covered large clubs and theatres throughout the Midwest and Northeast, highlighted by a concert at the Flynn Theatre in Burlington, VT to benefit COTS (a local homeless shelter) before ending with The Fillmore in Denver's opening night.
